This last summer, our family consisting of parents, six sisters & two brothers’ families, plus cousins and other extended family met for a family reunion in Upper Michigan at Granddad & Grandmom McGahan’s old homestead. It was nice being there all together after so many years. I remember spending part of my childhood there on the old farm. My husband & I later drove down over the bridge into Southern Michigan. We thought that it would be an excellent location for an educational conference. My sisters and I own small educational consultant businesses in our own area; awhile back we decided to join them together, but still keep them individual for the most part. By joining we all share education materials etc. and hoped in the future to start putting on educational conferences across the county (USA) as we are widely stretched from shore to shore & beyond. Some of our cousins also had their own education consultant businesses and joined us. We’ve invited a few others to join us and are now looking toward developing these educational conferences. We are looking at having one in Western Michigan in the summer of 2012 or 2013; giving us plenty of time to plan. What do we need to do in school to guarantee our children success in life? This is our theme. We hope to hold small conferences in each of our own areas on this topic also. First we have to see if we can find presenters.
While in Michigan, we met a young gal who was all hung-go on education and after talking to her, we decided that area would be a good location for one of these workshops. She was talking of taking signatures for recall because of this person’s lack of concern for education in Michigan. We asked her for a few names of people who might make good presenters for our conference.
Right now if anyone is interested in being a presenter, please let me know through my face book page; I do not get on there real often but opened it mainly for my educational professional contacts for our private educating consultant business. I am very busy with my jobs (I also still work for a school district as their educational consultant / special education director and am a college professor) and help care for a large family. All of us six sisters still work our regular jobs and are hoping to retire in the near future and start these conferences across the country. We use our extended names for our private educational consulting business only to keep it separate from our employment; what we write / say under our private business are not to be related to our employment. Although we use the same educational materials of well known educators in both; in our employment we have to stick strictly to their guides and in our private business we can present other materials, etc. To keep the separate and so we may have more freedom, we decided to use our extended names.
Thank you, JoAnneLeighette Gleason McGahan
